The Study of God, Chapter 13 - God's Grace

Gods Grace Knowing God by J.I. Packer Grace defined: Charis = Charismatic Gods Riches At Christs

Expense Judaizers wanted to add Christianity to Judaism; Pelagians said sin was a choice not inbred Arriving at truth by discussion; no absolutes Modern mans condition:

Riches are our salvation We imagine God as someone like ourselves Gods justice A mistake, but not serious

We see evil as tolerable and accept it God is just and righteous Modern mans helplessness God must take the initiative we are dead in sin

Sacrifices would appease gods The means of grace Works of piety

Communal practices Works of mercy The Sovereign Freedom of God God does not need us, we need Him Salvation does not depend on mans will but on Gods

mercy Accept grace as freely given Grace and salvation are Grace and sin God gave His son to pay for sin Grace brings with it many benefits

Grace and gratitude The power of God secures our salvation If salvation is certain, why live a holy life? We are prone to wander We prove our claim as Christians by living a Christlike life (evidence of grace)
